A Gift

My head knows no sorrow
And my heart no regret
For I have learned
Love knows no limits.
In its immense horizons,
I found out
My spirit knows no anger
Nor hate nor loathing
And that in longing
One may find peace
And beauty and quiet
(I smile upon the sudden flight of a hummingbird
And am still awed by a fiery sunset).
I’ve noticed
That often poets’ words
Outlast the conqueror’s speech
And that flowers still grow
Despite a late winter frost.
I’ve discovered
Memories do not make me falter
In going forward
(They become gentle companions
Sometimes visiting my rêveries)
And that fears, once embraced,
Change into strengths.
My head knows no sorrow
And my heart no regret
For I’ve learned
To find solace in thinking
Of you,
My friend.
