Confessions

I lace my shoes in extravagant ways,
I think,
For they never quite look like everyone else's.
I like ripples on the water when the breeze is strong,
And I do care if, leaving everyone behind to mourn as they wish,
Someone walks into the sunset at the end of a black and white movie.
I admit to having read a novel twice trying to recapture the first delights
And to enjoying occasional songs about lost loves and tragedy.
I ask myself silly questions:
Did Gable frankly not give a damn?
And does everything really go with the wind
Once it's all done?
When it snows,
I go outside to hear the silence of the flakes gently coming to rest,
And when the storm comes,
I count the seconds between lightning and thunder.
I like rain and sunshine,
But the lonely clouds running across the sky interest me most.
I don't mind red, but I prefer blue.
Someone once nicknamed me "The Absent Minded Professor"
Because I can be in many places all at once.
I pretend to love escargots because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings,
But I'd rather eat a sun-ripened tomato right off the vine.
I don't like money although I need it,
And I would give up Rome's riches
For the touch of your hand.
I lace my shoes in extravagant ways,
I think,
For they never quite look like everyone else's.
